Sometimes in life we come to a crossroads.

When we get to this crossroads… we usually have to make a decision. Sometimes, it’s a pretty big decision. Sometimes… it’s a decision who’s consequences can ultimately alter the course of the rest of your life.

I recently stood at a crossroads like that. And to steal a line from a famous poem… I took the road less travelled.

I am leaving the job that changed my life.

In doing so, I’m forging a new path in life… I’m taking a risk, going after what I’m most passionate about… and only time will tell how it’ll all work out. I have loved this job. It truly did change my life. So why on earth would I leave it?

I have loved my job for three long years. It was honestly an incredible opportunity that changed the course of my life in more ways than I think I can ever truly appreciate. I can say with absolute certainty that my life would not be the same if I hadn’t been in this position. It’s taught me a lot about myself, the world, and my place IN the world.

At the end of the day… this job showed me my purpose

I realize how that might sound… but it’s true. This job really did show me what I feel is truly my calling in life – motivating people and helping them to make real, lasting change in their health & fitness. This job did something else though… it showed me, once and for all… what I DO NOT want to do.

And that’s why I’m leaving the job that changed my life

Not because of something sinister. It’s much more harmless than that. I discovered something I think I knew at the Ninety Nine Restaurant… I don’t want to be in management or administration. One of the things that has frustrated me has been having the weight of running the whole club on my shoulders. Every little thing that has to  be kept track of, every measurable, every controllable (and non-controllable). Staff management, cleanliness, sales and attrition, customer ratings, business to business marketing, problem resolution…

I want to spend my time helping people. Not administrating.

I feel I’m much more able to accomplish this by simplifying my role. I want to be a cog in the machine. I’m stepping back from management and becoming a personal trainer. I’m going to be an agent of change, boots-on-the-ground, in the trenches with the people that are trying to change their lives.

Sometimes it’s important to take a chance and follow your heart.

I realize I’m taking a risk and completely shaking up my whole life. EVERYTHING is changing. I’m both terrified and excited for it all. There’s much more to it than what’s in this blog post… and I encourage you to listen to the podcast to get the full picture. I also encourage you to email me if you have questions or if you want to keep in touch.

Live your passion, follow your dreams, and Live. Life. Limitless.
